In November, 2011, students at Edward Town Middle School, located in Sanborn, New York, participated in an Anti-Bullying Pledge Day. In addition to signing a pledge and wearing blue to show their support for victims of bullying, several students also created a powerful anti-bullying video that was uploaded to Youtube and then shown during homeroom to the school's 1,000 students. News of their hard work spread quickly and links to the video began to appear on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Two local news stations also covered the story.
It was clear that the students' message was spreading, but it was too difficult to fully grasp the extent based on Youtube views alone. As a result, Wearethesolution.net was created as a digital pledge for any student in grade k-12 who wants to show support for Edward Town Middle School's anti-bullying initiative.
If you are a teacher, please urge your students to watch the video and then sign the pledge. It is their chance to take a stand against something that is a very real and widespread problem. If you are a student, encourage your friends to also sign the pledge. Share this website on Facebook and Twitter, and If you don't use these sites, then text the website address to your contact list! It is our job to spread the message that everyone is involved in bullying, regardless of the role you play. Remember, if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
